2010 Paul Reed Smith Custom 24

Artist Relations Prototype Guitar

with a

One Piece Quilted Maple Artist Grade top

The New V-12 BLACK GOLD!!! Wrap-around Finish

Searing PRS Tone

Augmented by the Vibrant Sustain of a

SOLID  ROSEWOOD NECK with a Rare Wide/Thin Carve

I asked the PRS Customer service department to look up this serial number and tell me what they could about the guitar.  This guitar was a prototype model of the new 5 way blade switch that was built in 2010 by the PRS R&D department for evaluation by several un-named artist and institutions.  As a result, the new 5 way blade switch comes standard on new Custom 24 guitars.  This fine guitar and the artist reviews that it received were an integral part of launching that design change.

Here are some things to think about as you look through the pictures.  Read more at the bottom of the listing page.

  • A collectable Artist Grade prototype guitar, made from the very fines available materials
  • Quilted one-piece Artist Grade top
  • Solid Indian Rosewood Neck
  • Wide/Thin neck carve
  • Bird Inlays common only to Private Stock guitars =  White Mother-of-Pearl outlines with Brown Lip Mother-of-Pearl fill
  • Incredible sustain and low action
  • The new PRS V-12 finish in the very finest of the new PRS finishes BLACK GOLD!!!
  • The “Artist Relations” PRS invoice to the secondary buyer is included
  • Factory original with PRS 59/09 pick-ups

This rare one-piece top has a beautiful quilt pattern that moves deeply as you look at it from different angles.  Be sure to check the close-ups of the detailed wood grain.  My initial thought was that it may be African Sapele, like the Santana 1980 Limited Edition guitars but the factory confirmed for me that it is a (extraordinarily quilted) maple top.  The wrap-around black gold was a perfect choice from the available factory finishes for this beautiful top.

Rosewood neck guitars offer un-paralleled tone and sustain.  I currently have three IRW models listed on my site and I’m planning to keep one of them so if you’re here, you should consider making a move before either this guitar or the other two are gone.  This one has Private Stock MOP bird inlays as well.

This guitar is in brand-new, un-played condition.  According to PRS this prototype was played and evaluated by several (un-named) artists and representatives passing through the factory before it was sold to the general public.  It does say “Rush” in the cavity but I don’t think that note has anything to do with Alex Lifeson of the band Rush.  A copy of the original packing slip noted “Artist Relations” is photographed above.  I gigged the guitar a couple of times as well.  It is still in flawless, factory clean condition.  The PRS 59/09 pick-ups combined with the tone of a solid rosewood neck provide the perfect combination of crunch and clarity on stage.  I probably have some video of this guitar at one of the gigs.  Reach out if you want to see / hear the instrument and I’ll try to dig up a video file to send along.

If you’ve ever owned a brand new car and seen that full row of zero’s across the dashboard before driving it off the lot, that is the feeling you get when you hold and play this guitar.  Cleaner than most brand new PRS guitars hanging in the music store.  The case is equally well kept.

Comes with original PRS hard case, the original tremolo bar, the original hang tag, adjustment tools and the photographed factory shipping invoice.

Check my e-Bay feedback profile ( e-Bay seller dm-2 ) and/or e-mail me with any questions.  Over 140 of my e-Bay feedback ratings are from PRS guitar sales.  PRS guitars are an investment.  You’ll ALWAYS have the option to re-sell it for as much or more than you paid.

This guitar is also listed on e-Bay with a starting price of $400 more than I’m asking here at my home page, due to outrageous e-Bay seller fees.  It is also on a rotating consignment schedule in two local music stores but I’m asking more there too, as they take a pretty healthy cut if they sell it.  Why pay more than you have to?  It may be gone soon.  Send me an e-mail and we’ll talk.
