PRS Hollowbody guitars are among the most under-rated instruments on the planet. I’ve often said: “If people knew how great the Hollowbody’s are, they would cost $10,000 right off the rack” and these thick body Archtop’s are a full cut above the more common hollowbody model. They don’t make these thick body Archtop guitars any more, with or without the piezo option.

Be sure to check out the full description of this 2002 Archtop / Piezo below the photo spread – and – If you’ve arrived at this page by generic Google search, be sure to click the PRS Guitars tab above before leaving this page to see all of the fabulous PRS guitars that I currently have for sale.

In my experience, all of the PRS Archtop and Hollowbody models have exceptional tone and playability. Six note chords ring out with perfect balance and definition from low to high, anywhere up the neck. This guitar is in near-new condition with a little tarnish on the bridge and one tiny nick on the edge above the strap button. Guitars with darker finishes tend to show their bumps but these natural finish guitars hide the little clear coat marks completely. I’ve posted a close-up picture of the bump above. There are some small random clear coat swirls but again, they are invisible on this color unless you tilt it in the light on close inspection.

You can see on my main page that I’ve had several of these. I seek them out because they are so fine and so rare. Rare even without the piezo option and virtually impossible to find for sale with the piezo. I gig one of these fine instruments virtually every weekend. My primary player, a 1999 Tobacco Burst Archtop II, has been faithfully doing hard duty since 2009. I take very good care of it but had to have the frets dressed a year ago and it made me think about having a second Archtop in the stable. I would be lost without one of these guitars. I had been searching for a year with no luck at all. Eventually I approached the buyer of the 2000 black cherry Archtop II that you see posted on my site (marked SOLD!!! since 2013) to see if I could buy it back and he agreed to trade for another guitar on my site. Now I have two “working” PRS Archtop/piezo guitars at the gigs.

One of the things that I really like about this particular quilt Archtop is that the face of the headstock has not been glazed. This is the only PRS Archtop that I have ever seen with a natural rosewood face. It accents the natural Maple top very nicely. The Piezo option on board these guitars does a phenomenal job of emulating an acoustic guitar. To add tone, strength and resonance, they are constructed with a solid block of mahogany under the bridge, joining the front and back of the guitar as photographed above. I run mine dry through a 31 band EQ to further tune the acoustic texture. In seconds you can you can dial in a VERY true acoustic sound through any amp or PA. Though the thinner and more common Hollowbody model does a pretty good job of representing as an acoustic guitar, the natural resonance of the thicker body Archtop design increases the acoustic texture of the Piezo tone measurably. I use my Archtop Piezo on stage exclusively as – and instead of – a traditional acoustic guitar. Great acoustic tone with no finger fatigue all night long. That alone is enough for me to buy, own and play one, but it is only one-third of what these incredible instruments can do. The electric aspects of this instrument include specially voiced McCarty Archtop humbucker pick-ups which deliver soulful sustain and zero feedback in the electric mode. They will do a great job for you as a plinky jazz box if that is what you’re into but make no mistake, these Archtop guitars are SCREAMAING, SUSTAINING, ROCK AND ROLL DEMONS if you want them to be. The controls on board allow you to switch from the acoustic to the electric tones in an instant, making the guitar fully versatile for rock songs with acoustic intro’s or rock ballads with screaming solo’s in the middle. The rock/jazz capability is still only the second one-third of this guitar’s applications. They are great for studio work also. The control design (once again) allows you to blend the electric and acoustic pick-ups to create unique shadow tones. As an example, I was never a fan of Breaking Benjamin but always wondered how they got that guitar sound. Then I saw them in a festival line up one night and realized how they (and many other recording artists since) achieved that stand-out sound. It’s difficult to describe here but go to YouTube and you’ll see examples of the blended magnetic pick-up / pizeo pick-up sound. A truly versatile guitar using its two independent pick-up system for a full spectrum of unique tones un-like any other instrument. Put it to work in any way you like.

Comes with the factory original case, adjustment tool, hang tag and the paperwork shown in the photo’s.

Please be sure to take a moment and click here to look at my ABOUT page or access it from the top menu bar. You can click HERE to access my e-Bay feedback profile ( e-Bay seller dm-2 ) directly as well. I encourage even the smallest of questions so always feel free to e-mail me any time. Over 140 of my e-Bay feedback ratings are from PRS guitar sales. This is a fine and rare instrument which will always be worth the current asking price or more. Even if they started making these again, the list price would be well north of $6000 based on what the common Hollowbody guitars cost new these days. As an original guitar from a limited production run there will be vintage aspects to these instruments in the near future. This one is already aged 13 years into vintage status and the value will ascend as time goes by.

This guitar will be listed on e-Bay with a starting price of $450 more than I’m asking here at my home page, just to put a dent in the outrageous e-Bay seller fees they would charge me to sell it to you there. Why pay more than you have to? Check my feedback and buy it here. It may be gone soon. Send me an e-mail and we’ll talk.

$3570.00 Includes Ground shipping to the lower 48

Good luck finding a non-piezo Archtop at this priceā€¦.
